So weird...when the B-52D crashed on takeoff at Kadena AFB, Okinawa, 10/19/68, we lived just south and east of the affected runway, in the Sunabe neighborhood. When this B-52D crashed in Orlando, we lived up the road a piece in Longwood, Seminole County.

Why is the name painted in white? they were never painted that way. the names were painted in black. It looks un-natural, and strange painted in white. they need repainted back into the flat black the Navy actually painted these to make the ship authentic

I was 20yrs. old and in love. My then boyfriend dropped me off at my home and left my house to go to Olympic Park. He stayed there and must have had a wonderful time. He shoveled out people in the trailer park across the street. He must have had a VERY good time as he must have decided he needed time to be single and have some fun with other girls. He did not want to settle down and I was out. Literally out in the cold. What a sad sad year that was for me.

I do not think this gate is on the airport property at all but at the entrance to the facilities around Lake Corrine (since renamed Lake Baldwin) This gate was where Corrine Drive entered the base property at Bennett Road. I remember this gate well in the 50's as my grandparent's farm was what is now Lake Baldwin Park (once Fleet Peeples Park) We had to drive through this gate and through the base property to get to their house. Now, possibly there were two identical gates but this photo of a gate is exactly what I remember

I knew Col. Mike McCoy personally, as my father and he were cigar-smoking and whiskey-drinking buddies. They would get together with Mulford B. Foster, the Orlando City landscaper who was famous for his orchid trips. and they all would revel in tales of world experiences. Foster lived close to our house where Wymore Road meets Fairbanks Ave. at Little Lake Fairview in a n amazing house on a deep sinkhole. I was only 5 years old and used to bounce on McCoy's leg, hanging on to his knee while they told war stories , and I called him "Uncle Mike." Dad flew as a passenger on a certification flight with him once on a B-52 and swore he never would again because McCoy wa used to fighter planes in the Korean war and in my dad's words, "almost flew the wings off the '52." I knew his 2 sons also and remember how we were all so sad for a long time. The B-47 had a unique lubricating system which did not work while the plane was inverted, which was a regular feat of McCoy, tragically for him and the others.
